This is a nice idea overall. Makes an interesting image, but also a bit inquisitive as to what maybe around the corner. Well done.

While the "walk down the street" is an option, I get more of a feeling the author is leading us to the doorway at #55 with the ominous staircase. In fact he's offering a choice, a sunny walk down the street or go and enter #55. To me it has a sort of film noir European vibe going for it.
