James, I like this and it makes me wonder about technique. It's obvious the subject is the ground in front of you and rather close. In a shot like this do/did you use any tilt? It's all in fine focus yet I feel a sense of perspective to it.
Hi Bruce, This is actually a large sandstone rock which was just below tripod level that has eroded. It's one of the strangest rocks I've ever seen. I don't recall, but I may have used a little tilt though not much. Most of the perspective is a result of the curvature of the rock.
If someone saw this didn't know the context (APUG forum) or the equipment used, might easily mistake this for an image of the Martian surface. The right side shows evidence of flowing water, the middle portion shows some volcanic activity.
