This is just spectacular Mark. This treatment makes this image for me and matches up well with the structure. Well conceived and executed from start to finish.
Maybe it's my monitor or my eyes, but it appears to me that there's a central shadow, double-lobed, almost like an x-ray of human lungs, in the center of the picture. I'm not sure what it is but it does not complement the edge burning.
Actually, I'm not all that fond of the edge burning. What was your intent with it?
Do you mean the shadow of the bare trees on the grass? I emphasized it just because it's there in that empty space of lawn. Regarding the edge burn, I'm experimenting with excluding extraneous items in the frame (misc. trees and bushes) and concentrating focus to the content I'm interested in. I did try an oval white mat opening and that didn't quite do it for me (I think it's still in my gallery). I agree the edge burning shape here is a bit whacky. I gotta stop dipping into the mini fridge full of beer in the darkroom.... Thanks for the feedback!
I think this would be much more successful without the edge burning. Better to concentrate on your composition to eliminate what you don't want than to call attention to it by burning in the edges in such an irregular way.
I agree with TFC about the edge burning, but nothing better than experimenting and seeing how it works. seems to me there is a little burning in in the center too. Not sure ow you got that when you dodged that area.
Experimentation is good -- that's how we learn. Well, that's how I learn, anyway. It would be interesting to see what it looks like without the edge burning.
