One of my son's friends stopped by and was gracious enough to sit for a short portrait session. This was done with a 250 watt umbrella (high and right), twin lens reflex and a black drape as the background. I'm still working on trying to replicate an older look, so this is a small step in that direction.
I like the calm expression. Maybe it would be an idea to test cropping away the arm. Even if it frames the image nice, it is a bit distracting. Or maybe just take away a tiny bit more of the hand but not the whole arm.

Matter of taste but I think the differential focus keeps the hand out of the field of view (I assume the aperture needed to be open given the light used) .
'Hot' lights really help in getting the older look IMHO , flash seems too 'harsh' . Anyway it's a really good portrait and I'm sure the sitter is thrilled with it.
I found another way to get an older look is to use an older camera from when optics were less complex ,.... or a Lubitel but I guess you're not as daft as me
