Union Pacific 844 - Valve Gear

Second in series of Union Pacific Railroad steam locomotive #844.

Efke PL 25 worked perfectly for this very dark black subject. Negative scans required hardly any correction to fit my vision of the prints.

I love the quality of your work, but I wonder would a square on view of the side elevation of the loco have greater impact?

Cheers

Thanks Andrew, thanks TEX.

TEX, it was mostly due to the constraints of the area that I shot it from this angle. I would have preferred a straight-on as you suggest. All that aside, please see the second version that I posted and thanks for getting me to think about it.

Alex, I really like this one. My eye goes to that silver piece that has a star pattern.. a very interesting bit.

I'm sitting at work now and am only several hundred feet from Union Station. That place has a wealth of photos waiting to be taken. Did they have any issue with you setting up the 4x5 there?

Thanks Chris. I got asked if we were doing commercial work. Once assured we were not, no more questions were asked. However, they have a general prohibition against taking photos inside the building. There was an absolute delicious antique fire engine out back, fully restored and spit-shined. It got preempted by the locomotive though.
