Looks quite cold, at least a couple of the people there appear to be cold.

I find that if I crop the top down to the trees cutting out the white sky and the power lines, it becomes stronger, by cropping out the power pole as well, it really starts to gain strength.

Spot on. The guy who is afraid of the camera is the teacher. And yes, it was cold. I was wearing a hoodie over a tee shirt. The next picture in the gallery was taken on the same expedition.

It was a hurried composition. I just fired the shutter not knowing if I had any time to compose the shot.

I agree it looked like a hurried exposure, that wasn't meant as a critique, I just thought it looked much stronger cropped.
