This just didn't look strong enough as a straight pd/pt print. Got the pastels out and had a little fun. I think I'd like to try it as a gum print, playing with adding colour.
Beautiful. Would you give a bit more detail about the pastels and how you used them? The colours have a smoothness and brightness I'm not used to seeing with pastels.
I've used pastels on gum prints a few times. (http://www.apug.org/gallery1/showimage.php?i=42945&catid=member&imageuser=17089) The pastels aren't anything special; just a 15+ year old box, left over from my kids arts and crafts days. This is an adaptation of my methods on gum, for the more delicate platinum surface. I don't use the chalks right on the image. I rub a Qtip on my chosen colour, then spread the colour with the Qtip. A soft eraser is used for careless smudges, but gently. I discovered while doing pencil on pd/pt that you can damage the image. (Gum is tougher - you can be much more cavalier.) Once I've got colour distributed, I then rub alot of it off with a soft cloth. Paper towel was fine for gum, but too rough here. If I rub off too much colour, I just apply a little more. Once I'm happy with the colour, I spread a thin layer of Dorland's art wax over the whole surface with my finger, then buff lightly with the soft cloth. Small circular motions, being careful not the smudge the colours outside where I want them. Ta-da! Then I get to decide if I like it, or if I've ruined a platinum print.
