TWO BRIDGES IN TIME

TWO BRIDGES IN TIME

On Lancaster Road in rural Crawford County, Arkansas is this pair of bridges. One, a railroad bridge, possibly upgraded in 1931 from a previous Truss bridge. The piers are of older design than the modern truss elements, and have evidence of being modified. The rail line was constructed in the 1880's, but the bridge makers plates on these trusses indicate a build date of 1931. The low water bridge for vehicular traffic is of undetermined age.

Great detail here in both the picture and written description. I can't recall ever seeing a road bridge in the UK with no guard rail. I'd be frightened at night going over this in a car - just in case I ran too close to the edge.
