My girlfriend and I were waiting out a rainstorm in this tunnel and I decided to make a picture. On the last frame two bicyclists rode past, I waited until what I thought was the right moment to trip the shutter...
hi shawn
the way the bikers are riding away
and the trickle of water inside the tunnel
and the raking light really work well together for me
i can almost hear the splash of water as they rode through it

Shawn your exposure is terrific, the difference between the outside and the tunnel must have been a lot, yet you have detail everywhere. I like the composition as it is, as it has a greater sense of scale.
Thanks, fellows. The camera was tripod mounted so I have an identical exposure without the bikers. I might print it anyway, it would be cool to see the two versions finished and next to each other. I actually did get splashed a bit, nanian. =)

I put the shadows up on Zone 5 and then INCREASED my development time from 15 to 18 minutes but also INCREASED my dilution from my normal 1:100 to 1: 200 if memory serves. The print was fairly easy with a burn on the middle bottom, a dodge on the bottom right corner and then two burns with different grades on the exit/bikers.
Really like the lighting and pattern from the tunnel itself. As for the bicyclists ... I'm thinking, catch them just as they are in the foreground and slightly blurred.Nevertheless, I really like your composition Shawn and commend you for working with such a heavy piece of equipment, but I'm sure the size of negs and acutance of prints make it worth all the effort
