Triduum of All Hallows

Also known collectively as Hallowmas, it's the formal name for the three-day (Oct 31 - Nov 2) Christian celebration encompassing All Hallows Eve (Hallowe'en), All Saints' Day (All Hallows'), and All Soul's Day (Commemoration of All Faithful Departed).

Most simply know it as Halloween...

Full disclosure: This is a direct full-frame negative scan. It has been sharpened, and contrast-adjusted to visually match the original print, which is now pretty thrashed and not able to be effectively scanned. Details for the original print are:

Oriental Seagull VC FB, grade 5 in Kodak D-72 (1+2) with 6% Na2CO3 added, KRST (1+15) for 10 minutes at 68F/20C

Wow, grade 5 with extra carbonate..you really gave it the beans! Halloween used to be a foreign concept to us, but over the last few years it has become very popular with the young folks here.

Hi Tony. The idea was to try to tonally isolate the three whitish masks from the background. Night time outdoor flash is an excellent way to do this. But I needed a near-black background to make it effectively work, hence the added carbonate. The Seagull paper was also weaker than I remembered in years past. What I wish I had done was to throw a bucket of water on the tree first to darken it even more. I've got some Slavich bromide I want to try reprinting on in the near future.
