First semi-successful attempt at a 12x20 wet plate on blackened glass. piece of glass that big is heavy and a logistical nightmare. Fun in that masochistic sorta way.
made it last night, I have yet to get mobile with any of this wet plate goodness... but like strand said, "its at our doorstep" right? :)
Beautiful texture, Matt! I think the way the lens works at wide open is interesting, focusing on the important and effectively shutting out the unimportant even though it's still in the frame. So I think the composition is strong from right side in (which is absolutely stunning) while the steps on the left bother me less than it would have with a lens that's sharp across the whole image. But those trees, and the light you captured on them is just stunning.

i agree, sometimes we just need to open our eyes to the
immeidate world around us as you have done here ( and lately )
this is something. i can only imagine it up close and personal!
that soft lens you have is beautiful. the left side is so quietly rendered,
and the right side is nearly impressionistic.
Thank you all for the comments.
I got alot of strange looks from passerbys last night... running in and out of my apartment with black stained hands and an apron on.
Lots of fun though.
I don't know if Ill be going mobile with this anytime soon, still doing tray sensitizing.
But it would be fun to be able to get out in the world and shoot some of these big ones
thanks again all for the kind words and encouragement.
Late to the party, but I can only imagine the logistics behind creating an image of this sheer size. Just trying to visualize how you hold the plate to pour the collodion!!! So wonderfully crafted and such a delight to explore the details.
