Testing some freshly made collodion and a new lighting rig using small aluminum shop lamps and flourescent daylight balanced tubes... As for the knife, well that is something I've had for many years as a collector piece. I'm also using the new 'Schwab' plate holder and whole plate insert. So far so good.
Andrew that's a very rich and nicely toned image. I'd be very interested to hear about your lighting setup; sounds inexpensive!? Have you discussed it anywhere on forums? Thanks.
Wow, the metal knife looks so awesome with this media. I bet it's really over the top looking at the real deal.
Speaking of the shop light with flourescent bulbs idea, I tried that some time back with some pretty damn good results. It pleases me to read someone I respect has given a go at it too and not ashamed to mention it!
The lighting set up is REALLY primitive. Basically two aluminum spun shop lamps with the built in clamps, and flourescent bulbs balanced for daylight 5000kelvin. I clamp them either side of the main rail on my Kodak 2D... and voila... light There's enough light for still life work, but portraits might be a problem with 30 seconds exposure not using a headbrace... I still have to try it out for portraits though. I think I may get some good results depending on how good the sitter is.
I can see how you get that sense from it. As for me, it evokes a little different effect. I'm sure you've heard of the term "lens porn" before. Well, this is knife porn!
