I cannot begin to grasp or convey the feelings Cambodians experience at this sight so I'll just comment on the soft colors, interesting lines and textures.
Gerry, I really like this photo alot, the colors work well together as well as the different textures. maybe you should incorporate this style into your portraits, a kind of enviromental portrait in this muted color, I think would work well. I think your "ladyboy" series is a worthy subject, however the pics seem to leave me with a depressing feeling. I dont think thats your goal though. If I am right I think you are trying to portray them as people, to let us see who they really are. If thats the case try a shot similar to the above in terms of the color tones but put your lady boy subjects in there in their enviroments, whether its a bedroom or on the street or whatever. I am not saying any of this in a negative tone, I am just trying to give you my opinion to try and help your work.............Frank
also what film was used for this shot and what was your light source? is this a scan directly from film? as I'de love to learn how using analog techniques i can achieve this colour saturation and contrast using analog techniques hand print from enlarger to paper.
