Tired of asking others. A self portrait

So first - I don't like this lens. BUT, I wanted to get this dress in the shot as much as possible, so I had to use my wide angle. It's not that sharp and I much prefer a longer length, but hey, just trying things out here. I have been asking some friends to sit for me - and while they all say yes, I am really bad about making arrangements (what with the three kids and all...) So I said, what the heck, dusted off the studio equipment, shook out the canvas drop, and went to shooting. Although I don't really LIKE any of the shots; I did get a great idea of a sort of project to do involving self portraits in the studio. :) SO - more to come. And hopefully better than the few I will post here.

Another thing - go easy on the comments , kay? I'm almost 40 with 3 kids!!!

Hi Katie..I'm 46 and with three kids. I didn't give birth to them and still don't look as good as you
I would have put the camera on portrait orientation here but you did pretty well. I can't offer you any advice as far self portraits but keep having fun and have a wonderful holiday!

Have a look at Stines self portraits for a few tips of how to do it - she is wonderful at them

I have a couple of further suggestions

1st - Try to look less worried

2nd - If you are keen to show off the dress then show off the dress and not huddle it round you - hold it out like a fan and show off the wonderful detailing

Martin

ps - totally non-pc - you look great for 40 - 3 kids or not

Hey, ALMOST 40...

1 - yes, I probably look worried, but it was my "serious" face. Maybe next time less worry and more "I can see the future" face.

2- I do have more with me fanning the dress. It's a really cool dress.

PS. Thanks.

Wish I looked as good when I was (almost) 40, but the hair started going @ 18

Detail shows well in the white dress, so I guess exposure was pretty spot on.

Really? So who was that good looking hot chick you had standing in for you?
If you place a coat rack, dressmakers form, or any other 'you' sized equipment in the view you can set up with a longer lens and be reasonably sure of your framing by marking the spot to stand.
Not a bad start at all, now you can play with lighting placement as well to educate yourself on the effects.

So you are in the best age, I'm over the top with 55;--))) I like it how it is, live is not always just a smile!

Cheers Armin

I was going to say something really nice, but then I get really nervous around beautiful women so I'll just quietly leave the room now...
