This is my first solarized image. Flashed for approx 1 sec half way through development. The straight print was good but I just wanted to try making it a bit more interesting. Not sure if it's neat or trite.
James: I think solarization works well for this picture. The straight print has a lot of elements, such as the foreground foliage, the woods in the background, and the other parts around the car that tend to draw attention from the main subject. The solarization abstracts many of those, while the body of the car remains very recognizable.
Neat or trite? It is difficult to say but there is enough here to say that at the very least it is a technique worthy of more exploration. I suspect that it is a technique that has more applicability, the more familiar the user is with the technique. A bit like Gary Player's remark about luck. The more he practiced the luckier he got.
