Sweet. The curved trail is quite a bit to the right but the shadow balances it out. Nice contrast and composition. Maybe burn the left edge a tiny bit?

Wow! Thanks Kevin!

Mark, you read my mind with burning the left side in. I actually did a burn, but it could have used another 3 seconds or so. It's a scan of a print, and I gotta say my scanning abilities (computing abilities in general) suck, as you can count pebbles in the print.

The gesture is perfect. How the trace of the rock and its shadow forms a hook is really very well done. Look at a lot of the work of Kertesz, and you'll see the same gesture in much of his work. The light is perfect too!

My guess is you had a long, bumpy ride home in the dark.
Great contrast, only available in the late evening. Most shots you see here (mine included) are earlier in the day, and don't bring out the fabulous textures of the lakebed. Strong work.

This was actually a sunrise shot; I spent 3 days at the southern edge of the racetrack. There's a small 'camping' area about 1 mile south, very primitive and rock strewn, with plenty of rattlesnakes. It was an interesting couple of nights. But you're right, Deckled Edge, midday was not a great time to shoot there. Definitely worth camping and spending an evening and sunrise there. I was the only person who camped for those two nights, and only saw one other person the whole time there. With the washboards as bad as they were on the road down, I wasn't overly surprised.

Thanks to all for your comments! I truly appreciate the kind words.
