I can see your point and would also like to have an alternative shot to compare with, without the boulder in the foreground. Unfortunately, there was no time to make another exposure due to the dramatic weather change and an upcoming rain shower. I hope I will be able to revisit the scene under similar conditions another time...

@eli griggs
You have a good point about cleaning up the composition by using selective focus. I am still on a learning curve and need to better understand when to opt for narrow DOF and when to not. For some reason, my "default" approach seem to be to get "everything" into focus (In this shot, I even tilted the front of my camera to get a tilted plane of focus (although the boulder is still somewhat soft)). I will keep your comment as a reminder for the future that selective focus is worth considering also for open landscapes.

Thank you all!

Thank you.

It just makes sense to add a second focus for a subject that is your main target, the expenditure for a second frame or sheet is small enough to consider making it a regular practice, where practicable.

Remember, your focal depth of field starts 1/3 before your focal point, and from the focal plane, it continues to 2/3 before where it ends.

A golfers rangefinded is a good piece of kit in any camera bag, but most smaller roll format lenses, is set up for zone focus calculations.

I do like this shot, but offered a criticism because your posting it here, asking for feedback, one way or the other.

And yes, it's true, I do usually do that wherever the photograph is posted.

Happy New Year and Godspeed.

I think the boulder perfectly balances the shed. Without the boulder there wold be no reason to have as much foreground.

Great toning What was the selenium dilution used and which selenium? I was recently watching an Ilford video on selenium toning and it was WT paper as well but on the video at 1+3 it came out what looks much more pink than this very attractive brown

Thanks

@pentaxuser Maybe there is differences between brands. I was also following the Rollei instructions to tone in a temperature about +4 degr Celcius above the "normal" processing temperature. In my case at approx 24 degr Celcius. I don't know if this makes a difference in tone color or if there is another reason for this instruction? (Then there is always the somewhat unpredictable differences between computer screens...)
