The New Photographers - Showing off my camera...

You all might remember the Balloon image I posted a month or so ago, well as it turns out, I was able to convince my photographer friend to shoot with me again.

There's this emerging trend it seems, for models to turn photographers, and for many of the new photographers to coincidentally all look like models, so that sometimes you can't tell who is the model and who is the photographer.

Very different from the "old days" when you could easily tell the photographer apart form the model, even if you couldn't tell the photographer from the homeless person/war vet/hobbit... HAH!

This frightens me a little as a "younger" photographer who isn't blessed to be one of the beautiful people, when given the choice to work with me, or another ultra hot female, which one would you choose to model nude for?

There is an interesting texture to that person's bottom. Is that grain or was it a little chilly?
Chilly on the bum, fishnets on the thigh

When I was young and reading magazines , there were no photographs of photographers. Now facebook , all photographers looks like an intellectual icons. Women , white hair , black dress and expensive glasses. I dont know if there is a IKEA shop around you but you can see big posters of with black dresses , healthy , wealthy toilet brush designers. All goes with Leica photographers , they have expensive hand made leather shoes and architect jackets. Like all the artists jumped from New Yorker Cartoons. They need to sell theirselves not art.I think if your photographer friend continues to show her butt to especially art paper editors , she would pass you.

Is the model here the photographer? Shouldn't she get credit for the image? Or are you the photographer and she merely the model? I'm confused. I am aware of the model/photographer trend; it followed on the heels of the actress/children's book author trend still on-going. Technically I think this image is very well done. But beyond that, it's a Facebook selfie. (About those, there's a Psych dissertation waiting to be written.)

Semi,This is Stone's photographer friend who shows her butt to draw attention. If you know me , you know my beatiful butt and if you make me rich and important , you know you own a stock from my butt she says.

Well, it certainly got my attention. But I'm an Old Guy, and in the 1970s too these were pretty easy to find, perhaps without as much 'please look at me' sadness as I'm seeing today. Matters little; Time, like photographs, treats us all with great cruelty.

Mustafa, As a person growing up in America, I recognize that there are differences culturally in perspectives, I also recognize that there is an age gap between the two of us, I know we've had these kinds of discussions before where you said something that I felt was not in the way of acceptable statements and not necessarily something that was okay to say. However I also value the fact that I can get a perspective from someone from a different culture and different age and hear them and understand how they think versus how I think. Sometimes I wish you think differently because your bias often make me sad, and sometimes I wish you would send me your biased comments in private so that they don't put negativity out there for others to see/feel. But in the end I also recognize that when I show my art to the world some people are going to like it and some people are not in everyone is going to have an opinion and that's part of life. As always I would encourage you to continue to strive to see the world with him open mind, and to not judge so harshly those who are not like yourself both in perspective and morality (morality being in my opinion a NON-universal but yet very specific to cultural opinion). To further elaborate, I chose to ask my friend if she would do this shoot, this was my idea, and she only went along with it because she knows that I make some very good imagery and trusted my judgment.Semi, Mustafa had it right, this is a friend of mine whom is in photography school, she's a very good photographer in her own right, but happens to be attractive and beautiful and have a nice body, but I was also commenting that in general many of the new photographers are beautiful women Who either are models that want to become photographers, or are simply beautiful women and beautiful men whom are becoming photographers, not many of them are unattractive, and even the overweight disheveled looking ones tend to have a more artistic style in their address and behaviors and only if you have beards Trask, thank you! (Taken as a compliment). Also I would like to point out to everyone, that she is not using these images to approach other people for jobs, in fact most of these will never be seen by anybody but you, I got special permission because I told her that the people on this forum are respectful and that they're all professional photographers, and that because it's a closed system not everyone would be able to see only members would be able to see, so I would thank you to respect her as a person and not be cruel if possible. In fact the only other person who's probably going to see these are her boyfriend.

Stone,I certainly wasn't being cruel or disrespectful, and I bet if you filtered Mustafa's comments through your history of his comments you'd see he wasn't being cruel or disrespectful either. In vastly different times and places (like, e.g., Berlin in the 1920s) people did some crazy things (by our time's metric) to survive. This is the risk one takes when one puts an image out there for others to see. If your model (and you still, I think, haven't mentioned if she was just the model or the photographer, or give her credit if she was) is worried about that then she shouldn't put the image out there. The "problem" with nudes is that their history goes back so far that the bar has been raised extraordinarily high for this kind of imagery. That's why I commented only on its technical merit as I saw it. As artistic image, or statement, or exploration, I find it empty. Sorry. (I'm also really bugged by the visible label on the panties. But that's just my being fed up with product placement saturation.)s-a
