Image taken last week of our mechanic and friend. I've often told him that he looks as if he's stepped from another era. He's definitely a man of the South!
Taken with my old Canon A-1, 85mm lens, shutter speed @250-500, aperture @2.8 - 5.6 range. Tri-x film rated @320 developed in T-max. Scanned neg.
Are you saying that the "tone" is just of the negative per se; that a half an hour of more washing would have changed the color to a more neutral tone?
No...washing a half hour more wouldn't have changed anything on my negs. This is a scan, not a print. However, this is quite indicative of our final prints as we usually selenium the images on warm tone paper. I choose not to scan in black & white mode or grayscale simply because I lose detail and depth in the image.
This is not accidental...it's our process. We overexpose & underprocess the film to achieve the warmer tones, but we don't compromise the archival nature of our work. It's fully fixed and fully washed. Hope that helps.
I just looked at the other photo that you posted of this man and I liked it, but this one is fantastic. It's one of my favorites portraits that I've seen of yours. The eye contact and his stance are perfect here. I look at this and feel like I know a bit about this man without ever having met him. You do good work with that 'old' Canon.
