Tony, this is a special shot that I really appreciate. Having three son's who were all classically trained pianists this goes to my core. My oldest son was at one with Beethoven's work and gave many incredible performances of the masters sonatas and concertos. You have captured a great mood, dynamic and passion that is the essence of Beethoven. Thank you.
Thanks all for the feedback. This shot is a few years old now but one of my favourites so I thought I'd give it an airing here. Bransby is one of those people who invests every fibre of his being into his passion for music; Beethoven in particular. His old studio was upstairs in a rambling terrace in an old part of an old Sydney suburb being slowly "modernised". This was the last concert amid the groaning bookcases of LPs, sheet music, cushions, old divans, odd lampshade collections etc. before he had to locate to a smaller city office with much less character. I made a nice print for him as a gift shortly after he re-located.
The other reason it's special is I only took this one frame of his performance. I made 3 or 4 of my daughter singing but this was the finale and I did not want to interrupt the mood with my noisy old F4 in the front row. I positioned myself in this viewpoint just before he started to play and waited for the final chords and took the shot. Sometimes you have to be lucky as well!
By the way, the other much smaller print on the right was of Mozart.
A nicely seen photo, with the hands being in just the right position. Nice tones too, especially considering the lighting.
I'd look at cropping it to a square in order to crop out the curtain (?) on the left. I'm not entirely sure it'd work, but the curtain is a little distracting.
