Here is a recent negative from the Lower Owens River Project. I mixed up the color with the black and white holders and had a few surprises. I didn't plan on interspersing color with the black and white images when I set out photographing the project, but after seeing a few in color I wonder if it might not be a good idea.
Richard- I think this color image, in any case, is much more meaningful than your black-and-whites of the same subject. This is a landscape that needs LESS abstraction, especially for your stated purpose, and shooting it in color gives it the realistic edge it needs. This is very well done, and I like the way you've seen this in color.
I went and looked at this portion of your site. The color images seem to say more to me about the area. Instead of gray tones, the color images show the kaleidescope of the landscape.
Scott, your comment about this being a landscape that needs less abstraction is a very good point, and it has kept me from sleeping for last two nights. It is something that will need more thought. The problem is the landscape does not look like this most of the time. It is often very flat because of the intensity of the light. It is something that I have learned to deal while photographing in black and white.
We will have to see where it goes from here. Certainly though, I will be using more color films (but I am not looking forward to that $15 dollar a sheet price tag [wait, does that mean I can charge more now?])
