The Henry House, Manassas Battlefield

A view of the Henry House, Manassas Battlefield. Home of the Widow Henry, perhaps the first civilian casualty of the Civil War. She was killed when Confederate troops took shelter behind her house while firing on a Union artillery emplacement. The Union officer ordered two of his guns to be trained on the house and fired point-blank into it to silence the rebel snipers. The monument is one of the first monuments of the Civil War, built by Union officers. The remnants of the oldest, erected DURING the war by Confederate troops to commemorate one of their generals killed at 1st Manassas, are not far away. It was pulled down by Union soldiers later in the war.

Well done. I like the starkness of the tree in the scene. I've never seen that house quite like this.
