Excellent image.

Looks like you may have given it too much pre-flash. The contrast, to me, is awfully low and the image looks a bit flat. I'd print it at a slightly higher contrast, then burn in the water a little to bring it back down.

Learn carbon transfer! The process would love a negative like this. A friend of mine has an image like this of a sea cave and you can see the texture of the black cave and the texture in the water! The image is 3D. Great shot and with some more work you'll have a really nice image. I agree that the contrast is a little off.

Thanks for your comments. I scanned this earlier today when the room was quite sunny and now realise I completely messed up the scan. What looked a good representation on the screen this morning in the bright room is clearly too light when viewed in the more even light this afternoon. I've rescanned it and replaced the original file with one that looks closer to the print.
I'm happy with the tone of the water and the black top corners (which provide a good frame), however I want to lighten the rocks on the floor and to the right of the water a touch. Dodging/buring would do it but I think, given my skill, would look unnatural due to the high contrast and intricate edge with the water, unless I could perfectly register a very accurate mask. I hope the improved scan shows this better as I think the previous one gave the impression the challenge was low contrast and not the very high contrast I've actually got.
EDIT: You might have to do a page refresh (F5?) to get the new scan to show.
