The Governor

Nice photo. I don't think he's looking down his nose at anyone -sounds rather a modern socialist interpretation. He looks rather sad to me.

Perhaps it is Sir George Bowen, 1st Governor of Queensland (later the Governor of New Zealand):

One the other hand, it does look a bit earlier than that in style, has a touch of the Georgian about it.

@Svenedin I thought it was Captain cook, but doesnt really look like him. The bloke I spoke to said nobody is really sure who it was, but thought it should be mounted somewhere. The Museum shifted from there during the eighties and he got left behind. Maybe I should of look underneath for so markings.....next time.

@awty If it is Captain Cook it should be quite easy to confirm. There are many statues and paintings of him.
