Thought I'd try communicating about something I feel strongly about. This is my local town when the shops are closed. We hear a lot about the UK's economic miracle but in reality outside the SE the economy is in a mess. This is what an ex mining town looks like today !
Comments more than welcome - even those that feel I'm making too much of it :-)
No I don't think you are making too much of it but we could write chapters on this fixation the current govt has and previous govts had with the South East and the consequences of this.
I like the solitary piece of detritus in the foreground and the disturbing "out of perpendicular" angle it has been shot at. The plastic pipe conveys a certain grubbiness and "new but already worn out" feeling that recent new town centres convey to me. Shiny has managed similar shots albeit in B&W in Newcastle where there are echoes of the run down provinces and industrial decay phenomenon.
No colour cast problems here. Again Portra is spot-on. I must get myself some even if it is more expensive than Fuji Superia or Kodak VR. The more I see, the more I think it is my kind of film.
Thanks for all of your comments. I sometimes wonder how much longer I will be able to get up again after taking shots like this (50 is up this year) .
Portra really is a gorgeous film, prints can be really 'pastel' in tone but can be made harder by underexposing a little in my experience. I think that for colour I will be using Portra for most work and velvia for those shots which need a little more lift.
Your comment about monochrome is a good one - looks like the Bronica will be taking a trip to town.
