This is another from the St. Joseph beach... this was two days before hurricane bonnie was coming, we had to leave two days early even though it truned out being a tropical storm but oh well.
I guess you wanted to express the abandoned beach before the storm. Here are some tips to make this picture better. The idea is to express a threat on the beach.
- Use a low viewpoint. Lay on your belly (imagine a horrorfilm looking up to the mansion and lightning flashes )
- Use dark tones. Make the sky dark
- Use an unusal attribute to express the situation. eg. a fallen chair or something.
yes it it b&w from color process...i'm never doing it again but i did make some new prints myself using the negatives and they came out much better, i'll have to upload some.
Walgreen's processes 1 kazillion rolls of film a year. Three of them are B&W. They just dunk your film in their soup and press the B&W button on the processor. You will never be happy with this. Do it yourself. You'll probably get better results developing in Ovaltine.
I like the Ovaltine comment....
I've been relying on WalMart, Kmart and my local supermarket for years...never really happy with the outcome.
Maybe I'll try the Ovaltine....maybe a little Dektol too...
in this picture, it isn't clear whether the subject is the beach or the sky, since there is almost an equal amount of both. I think for this you could've gotton down on your stomache, like he said, and featured almost all beach, and just some sky, to make the photo more interested. Just an idea.
