Teotihuacan

Teotihuacan

I took this photo in January '08 at the archaeological site Teotihuacan, north of Mexico City. This was taken late in the day with a Holga using Fuji Pro 400 colour neg. I should have taken slower film such as Reala as there is little exposure control on a Holga. My tests show it shoots at f/8 @ 1/100. I was using my Soligor spot meter to assess the light levels. I had to use a ND filter for this shot, I think it was a 2 stop. The image I'm uploading is from a scan, it has been adjusted to match the proof sheet. This is the pyramid of the Sun. After this shot I had to leave as I was worried about missing the last bus back to Mexico City.

I enjoy seeing color used in a Holga. I've never done that, yet, but I like yours!

nice image. wish I was in mexico right now. the holga really creates a dreamlike quality. I like your film choice. the reala might have been less saturated colour actually?

I like the soft look from your Holga. I could never get anything satisfactory out of mine. Colour was a good choice.

I agree with Walter on the soft look. Teotihuacan has been photographed since the first camera arrived in Mexico in the XIX century, and as today, the common photos of the place used to be totally amateurish, touristic kind, or totally profesional, for adds and catalogs. Your shot give us a more ambiented look, more sence of place, thanks.

Thanks for the comments.
I mostly use colour in the Holga. I think the plastic lens does something odd with the RGB wavelengths that we don't see in B&W.
Jose, most of the shots I took at Teotihuacan are pretty lame. I think because everyone takes snapshots from the same places. I got lucky at the end of the day because I decided to get off the main path to explore some of the ruins to the side. That meant I got to take this shot across the long grass rather than from the walkway.
I went twice to Teotihuacan & would like to have gone back & spent more time there. It's an extraordinary place & so much to see.
I have a file box full of pictures from DF & will be putting them up slowly as I sort through them. All the film was processed at LMI.

For a good pizza I recommend Pizza Amore, cnr Michoacan & Tamulipas in Condesa Hipodromo.

I have not seen much colour pics from holgas but this is really nice. I like the pastel colours and softness.
