Maybe just a little bit less wrinkling of the paper?... although I do think it adds something positive. It may also be a scanning issue, simply enhancing it to much in the reproduction here.

No- that's the paper. The light Kozo paper is almost like tissue paper and it starts to break down in the handling between the developer, clearing and final wash. If you don't want this to happen, you have to mount it to some kind of support like a thin sheet of acetate before you put it in the developer.
