Sunset on the Beach

This is an awesome exposure. It's impressive that you managed to keep any detail at all in the dead tree considering the sun direction. Nice composition too.

John, it's incredibly difficult to get any detail on a straight print with this negative. I've been experimenting a little with unsharp masking to tame the contrast and that seems the only way to approximate the appearance of the negative scan. I even have a hard time with it making a digi print without resorting to multiple passes through the printer to enhance the shadow detail.

so beautiful..i read your comment but since i have zero darkroom experience i can't appreciate your diffiuclties..Photoshop yes, darkroom no. But i can really appreicate the image as it's presented here. i love the marriage of trees, shadow, silky sand and subtle grasses..i might have taken a few steps to the right to cut out some of the empty area on the left, give more white space between the foreground tree and the one right behind it and also include a bit more of the trees to the right which have a nice graphic appeal to their bare branches, but then again, i'm playing Monday Morning Quarterback and it might have been a tough call at the time. thanks for your comments on my images tonight..i do so appreciate it..regards: kat~

Kat, the shooting position was picked to put the sun behind the tree trunk. A smidgeon either side and the sun would have blasted the scene. Thats also what caused the excessive exposure density (for enlarging) that makes it so hard to print. I think it may be right for palladium printing though.
