Dusk at the Watchman, Zion National Park, UT. Virgin River forms a reverse C as a leading line. No Filter used. Image used by Leica Camera, award winning photo by Professional Photographers of America.
Thanks for the compliment. I had known about this spot in Zion National Park (near Springdale, UT) from the post cards at the gift shops. I had been out taking photos for the day hoping for a very intense sunset. Unfortunately, it had been raining for most of the day and I knew that that would be very improbable. I was on my way back to the campground expecting that the day was over when I got to this spot; the sun was actually down and the twilight lighting in dusk was this remarkable magenta, purple. I knew that I would not be able to get to my Linhof Technikardan 45S to set up and to shoot the conditions fast enough. All I could do at this point was to grab my Leica R4SP loaded with Fujichrome 100D and a 35mm Leica Summicron lens. I grabbed my Gitzo tripod, mounted the camera in the QR and took about 4 shots before the light was gone. No filter was used for the image(s).
Thank you for the kind thoughts. When we as photograhers are faced with fleeting lighting conditions like this image, as you know we have to work very quickly. We have to work as quickly as possible to find a strong and meaningful composition that will express our feelings and something that we will be able to share with those that view the image.
