Thomas what strikes me is the hi-light on his forehead seems quite pronounced (especially in the thumbprint), so I would imagine it will require careful burning in when printing. But of course with your skill it may not prove a problem, I'm probably just thinking if it was me who had to print it.I do think the shadow adds drama to your photo.
Ah. Yes, of course. That will take some manipulation, for sure. My negatives are usually difficult to scan, because they are quite dense and 'robust'.
Once in the enlarger, the machine that sees far more than the scanner, everything falls into place. I use diffusion enlarger, and a fairly soft working developer, so much of those highlights that look scary in a scan, by default look much better in a print.
Thank you very much for taking time to look and to discuss. I hope to get some darkroom time today to print this.
Thanks, David! I'm extremely pleased with this portrait, and has that grain and texture that I covet. I will be printing this neg today, and I'm excited to do so. Beyond this, Stuart is a really good friend, one of those people that are just so easy to get along with. It was nice to be able to make a portrait of him.
Still, in all, even as it is here as a scan it is a wonderful portrait. It does have a hot spot on his forehead, But t'were it me, Sir, I'd be right happy to have it on my wall as a gift...... Logan
