Thanks, David. This scene is somber, but just outside of frame (below frame), a group of young kids were having a lively game in the dirt.
I had to look it up to make sure I was correct. From Wikipedia: The "Grand Union Flag" (also known as the "Continental Colors", the "Congress Flag", the "Cambridge Flag", and the "First Navy Ensign") is considered to be the first national flag of the United States. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Union_Flag
At Strawberry Banke, the oldest neighborhood in New Hampshire, interiors of the restored homes are decorated in different eras of America's past, represented by the flag flying in front of the home. On the left, the home's interior is period correct for WW2. On the right (the flag you pointed out), the interior of the home is representative of the Revolutionary War era. There are also homes decorated in the colonial period, the late 1800s, early 1900s, and as late as the 1950s.
Edit: Correction.. the home on the left is decorated as it was in 1915, when it was owned by a family of Russian Jewish immigrants (representing the waves of immigration which brought in awesome new cultures and peoples to the United States during that time period)
