Storm Approaching, Rannoch Moor

Amazing stormy light on Rannoch Moor. Black clouds worked their way up Glencoe in the distance and right to the edge of Buachaille Etive Mor, the mountain in the distance. The foreground was still bathed in light. Thought I was in for a soaking, but the clouds stayed where they were...!

Both of these images were taken within half an hour of each other, which one works best?

Ah, that famous tree!!
I found it,too, when we were there in April 2008 on our way back home to Germany having spent another lovely holidays in Scotland.
BTW, I like the first one better because of the light on Buachaille and the composition.

And: Beautiful work in your gallery!

Both are very nice, but this one works better for me. The composition just feels right, the other one is missing something.

Both are beautiful!

Very beautiful! I like this one better, because of the clearer composition and the more dramatic mood created by the shadowed mountain.

Very nice design! And strange tonal values. Must have been a heck of a storm.

I prefer this one. It gives more visual challenge to the viewer. Although I'd be happy with the other one too!

Wow, you've captured a foreboding and inhospitable atmosphere in this photograph. Well worth the effort!

All the best,
Daniel

Amazing light that you only find once a year if you are lucky to be in the right place... I like better the one where the mountain peak in the background is lit. It has a better balanced composition. Very nice tones.

Thanks for taking the time to comment, much appreciated.

It was amazing just to be there, it really was unusual and special light.

Photo-wise, I prefer the first picture as I like the composition better.

Folker - I usually try to avoid popular locations, but I'm hooked on this tree, I'll maybe meet you there someday! Here's an older picture taken at the same place:
