Jeanette
I would dodge in the center, foamy area to make it a little lighter (or brighter). I like this one better than the other, a better composed shot... and what is wrong with printing it square?!
Jeanette;
I think the ND filter done ya in. As was said in the other picture, this is a prime candidate for Les's Split Grade technique. That white water could dazzle, and all the elements are there for a fantastic image.
agrre with the others, on my screen the white look printed down a tad too much. Maybe the dry down got 'ya! Try a lighter one, the composition is great.
Very well done on both prints, Jeanette. Remember, it's your print so print it the way YOU want it to look. We all have our own way of seeing things...but I do think a little more 'white' in the water could make this pop...but that is just my opinion. Sure wish I could hear that water right now...it looks so coool and soothing...ahhhhhhh!!!!
BTW glad you included the stick (or is a tree trunk there really is no sense of scale) and it adds something to the image.
Remember Jeanette, "a little soft goes a long way". I'd split grade it if the neg has high contrast and give just enough soft filtration to put delicate tone into the highlight. A little more burn on hard filtration to darken the rock on either side would also help increase the contrast and make the image sparkle. Love the arrangement.
Well, I'll have to tell you what was going on with this. First, old developer, and second...not taking dry-down into account. Boy-o! haha
Thanks for all the great comments on this! I plan to re-print it and see if I like it printed in fresh developer! haha I'll post the other one when I print again. Thanks again!!!
