Station Abstract

Station Abstract

OK I need help on this one. I saw this on a business trip recently and run off a few shots because I loved the subtle patterns of dust on the roof. The scan looses a lot of the subtle detail thats is the print. Any comments welcome if you like it or not.

Phil, I'm assuming there's detail on the print in that dark area at the bottom. But ... sorry for a predictable post ... how would it look it that dark area was only as wide as the dark "bars" running vertically?

Better, Thanks for the tip. The original does have detail in the black bar but I though it distracting. Never thought of taking out totally. I will amend the download

Phill (sorry missed an L last time) For me that's much better, but more importantly how do you like it now?

TP
I like it and will now print in that format next session. However I do dislike the loss of clarity in the scan as the print is sharp.

Phill,
Although some here seem to nail the scans I find mine are very hit and miss. That goes for flatbed and film scanning. I usually find that scanning at as high a resolution as I can, resizing and then adding a little unsharp mask to make it match the print next me gets it close but never as good. But I still lose some of the highlight/shadow definition

Ditto. Scanning is a chore I detest, mainly because of the hit and miss variablity. If digi cameras are as tempremental I'm glad we still have film

Phill,
They have their advantages but still a a lot of PS work with resizing, compressing if emailing to a picture editor, etc. Plus you can only handle one picture at a time and those file sizes are huge. I'll be sticking with film as long as it's available though and if I have no other choice but digi, then maybe I'll take up fishing instead.

Phill, I like it the way it is. I wouldn't have known what the specific subject was without your explanation, but wouldn't have cared. Its a nice abstract using symetrical and similar shapes.

Phill, I'm with Alex...would not know and don't care (OK it makes for interesting conversation), but would hang it on a wall at home without a thought. This fits some of the discussion that have been had here about 'pretty' pictures..this is one that provokes ... you don't know what it is by looking at it, but you sure are drawn to it. Very nice job of 'seeing' and beautiful exposure/printing. Thanks for sharing.

I'm still not certain what it is but I like the lines and contrast. As interesting as the scan is, the print can only be more so.
