Here is one of my older slides from my college days. In one of my crazy hiking fits, I circled almost all of Guadalupe Mountains National Park in a few days solo. It snowed the last night while I was camped at the rim of Pine Spring Canyon, and I used up the last few frames of my roll trying to capture what I saw the next morning.
Interesting picture. I might try printing that in black and white. There are some very interesting highlights with the branches and face of the far hills/mountains as well as a nice set of highlights and shadows in the distance. The clouds have great possibilities as well. With some skillful printing this could become a very good print. The way it is is ok but I think it has a lot more potential in b&w.
Thanks for the suggestion. I converted it to greyscale after I scanned the slide to see how it looked and liked it. I guess I need to figure out how to turn it into a black and white negative for use in the darkroom. The color version looks a like a painting to me, and this flatbed scan(V500) doesn't really do it justice.
You're right, Jeffrey - about it looking like a painting - a dang good one. I wouldn't know how to convert to a BW neg, but I'm a bit bias - when blansky sees something there, I'm listening rather carefully. Its uncanny to me how it can look so much like a painting. Its really beautiful.
The monochrome look in color I think is what makes this work. If in black and white it would be just another mountain picture with nothing interesting. for the snow, thank you for saying something because on my screen I don't see it at all. Great shot
