I am so jealous! Because snails are a local delicacy, I have been meaning to snap a photo or two of those unfortunate souls before they end up in the frying pan but after seing yours I am ready to give up. How could I make it better? The composition, the focus, the blacks and the whites, the energy and pose of the snail...perfect! This is how little creatures are supposed to be shot not like the millions of utterly dull and lifeless macro snapshots.

Just for the record, I used my dad's old Nikkormat with 55mm Nikkor Micro.

The other 35 frames - shots of a bulb of garlic - were miserably bad. But somehow this snail came out ok...

Excellent! I like the DOF.

That's a cool photograph! I'll bet the snail gave you plenty of time to focus...

Re: the last point. You'd be surprised how quickly these chaps move about when you're trying to focus a macro lens...
