I like the composition uncropped, but think that the left side -- particularly the upper left corner -- could be burned in a bit to balance the darkness on the right side. On my monitor, there's a white patch along the middle of the left edge that blends into the outside of the image. Darkening that would restore the edge of the image frame.
Hmm I never noticed the white patch before. I will darken it and see how it turns out.
my main gripe over this image is the outcropping of rocks on the left. It's very monochomatic and doesnt seem like it should be there. However I like the clouds on the left, which I think add a sense of depth. That is why I have been torn between cropiing or leaving as-is.
I reckon the grass, roots and that tree are the picture. If the camera was moved to the left, turned to the right and made vertical it may be better....... but hey, I wasn't there!

Ive gone back to this tree multiple times. Its an inspiring site for me but it is extremely hard to communicate.. Tony, i think you are on the right track.
