I use Hypo, it gives me neutral black and white plates. KCN is nice for that coffee and cream look, but too dangerous for me. I have small kids and I am around the public a lot, so I don't use it or want to keep it in my house.

Thanks for the quick reply-I thought that might be the case.
Is this the reason for the sugar/iron dev?
I'm trying to 'sane-itize' my own efforts and move away from the most harmful substances.

Victor,
The sugar in the developer acts as a restrainer, so that I don't have to mess with water dilution or addition of acid as the temps go up and down. I find it an all around good developer to use instead of a "hot" or "cold" weather mix. Also the sugar seems to build the whites better than developer without. Some use nitric acid for this, but I find the sugar works just fine.

I've become very comfortable with the collodion and developer I use, and know that the two work good together- from 65 degrees to over 100 degrees Fahrenheit in all sorts of weather (sun, rain etc.)
