Simon carves in wood the most wonderful patterns which are inspired by nature, sand ripples etc The wood is then gessoed and finally he gilds them with white gold leaf. The pieces change mood along with the light and become dynamic when something moves across them, diffusing their colour and shade.
This was taken in his studio as he was preparing two pieces. The finished one is on the wall behind, here he is gilding the other one.
I used the Cooke PS945 at f5.6 as I like the effect at this aperture. Since the studio was light, I could use Acros at 1/4s.
Focus plane intentionally set using a fair bit of tilt.
