My mother kept her cancer secret and we didn't know till the very end that she had it. She was dying when I made this picture but only she knew it. She passed away a couple months after I made this photograph. I very rarely do portraits but I must have sensed the end was near. Her greatest joy in life was reading but she was virtually blind for the last years of her life. When this print came up in the developer (after her death) it moved me.
Yes, it is beautiful! Your photograph moved me too. It's an incredible portrait that could stand well on its own, but it's much stronger knowing the story. Thank you for sharing this.
I also thank you for posting. I have been a lurker on this site for months and your image and story moved me to respond. Thank you for a wonderful portrait.
Lovely Portrait! !!! I managed to get some simple images of my elderly parents last year with my Hasselblad but I really want to get a proper/more formal large format image of both of them---I need to get on it as they are not in the best of health. Your image really hits home and I hope to have something as terrific as yours !!!
