Shameless

This blighter is engaged in open warfare with me over the bird feeder.

The last one he destroyed; so far, this one is withstanding his attentions, but I fear it's only a matter of time...

Ha - I might yet be tempted. He brought his friend along this morning to try and get it in a pincer movement.

Nice shot Tim - camera on a tripod with a remote trigger?

Your right - it is only a matter of time before he gets in

The RSPB do sell caged versions of feeders to keep the squirrels out if it bothers you that much.

I just leave some peanuts on the ground for the squirrels to keep them away from the feeders.

The second advantage to leaving a few peanuts around the garden is it brings in the foxes to scavenge for them

Camera on a tripod with 400mm lens; no need for a remote trigger though - he's completely unafraid of me. He didn't bat an eyelid while I was setting up the tripod and camera!

To be fair, I rather like him (and his friend,) even if he has nearly given me a heart attack on occasion when he decides to shoot out from nowhere like a bullet. I think we're going to take the "if you can't beat them join them" approach and put out a squirrel feeder as well so the birds can hopefully eat in peace .

Nice shot.

You should see a video, which may be available through Public Broadcasting in the US. Can't remember the name for sure, but I think its "Squirrel Trouble". Hilarious.

There's a segment where a guy got tired of a squirrel taking birdseed from his fine, handcrafted feeder. So he decides to take it out with his double-barreled 12 gauge. Predictably, he fires from inside his home through an open window and obliterates the aforementioned fine, handcrafted feeder. The squirrel escaped unharmed to a nearby tree.

He tries to get off his second round, but it won't fire. While trying to figure out the problem, the gun goes off in the house, putting a whole in the floor.

About that time, the caption appeared, with his name and profession, the latter being "Clinical Psychologist".
