Shadow Art

Shadow Art

I took this shot with a 1937 vintage Zeiss Super Ikonta when recently at the Tate Modern gallery in London. I think that the shot is OK as such but I want to try and experiment a little more with it (maybe a bromoil or saltprint, for example). I know that sometimes these processes need flatter images and I want to try experiment here. I put the shot up more to ask how should I try and tone down a little the blown out highlights. How much of a change or improvement could be made by split grade printing, for example? Really welcome your advice and critical comments.

Pre-flasing the paper is probably the best way to go Ewan. Lovely shot (something very quaint about the upturned shoes), and I instantly recognised the occasion ;-) K

I think this works - very well, just the the way it is!
I would suggest theat "blown highlights" are NOT mortal sins - only additional tools in the box.
They are very useful for establishing a mood, and they work - very well - here!

Agree with Ed. Keep the highlights blocked up, don't try to 'correct' them, as that would make the image less brilliant and possibly dull.
Well done!
