Seward, United States Secretary of State under Abraham Lincoln, who in 1867 fought for the U.S. purchase of Alaska which he finally negotiated to acquire from Russia for $7 million, Seward is one of the more lucrative commercial fisheries in the U.S. Located 126 miles south of Anchorage, it is also a favorite for sport fishermen and tourists.
