I photographed this in the town of Santo Inácio, in the Sertão region of Brazil. The Sertão is a semi-arid region characterized by it's poverty and barren landscape, and I have seen american textbooks refer to it as "Brazil's Badlands." Such a description is not at all far from the truth.
While in Santo Inácio, a semi-ghost town home to an abandoned diamond mine, I was shown this pond, which is the result of a thin line of water some could call a creek. I did my best to capture it on film before the sun set.
I ran into a couple of problems with this print...
First of all, I forgot that winter finally hit us in Texas, and didn't realize that my developer was at 65 degrees, down from the 70-72 norm. No wonder it took 3 minutes to develop my prints. I only realized this as I was running out of time, so this is the only good print from Monday's printing session. DOH!
Secondly, I creased the print while squeeging it... you can see the mark in the top left corner. DOH! Again!
Oh well, I guess a re-print is in order.
In a much happier note, the grade 5 filter worked marvelously on top of the film carrier. Thanks Gary!
