Self Portrait - Stone Leaning on a Stone

While shooting a client on Mount Washington for his Karate Portrait (He wanted an epic Karate stance "On Top of the Mount!") I pulled out my 6x7 and shot some of the scenery and decided to take a self portrait.

I have had a lot of trouble with scanning 70mm as it won't lay flat and they don't make 70mm holders (that I know of) but realized I could lay some 120 ANR glass right on top and get a nice flat image, only drawback is you can see the lines of the glass on the edges of the perforations so framing the perforations is an issue, perhaps since I plan to shoot 4x5 soon-ish I'll get a 4x5 piece of ANR glass and that will solve my edge issue. Unless anyone has some 70mm/116/616 ANR glass they want to sell me...

Nice image. I like how casual it is. Not easy with a self-protrait. Great tonality as well. Don

Yea, I've discovered this GAF film is great for portraits, really smooth skin tones, I think it's because it's aerial film so it has some IR sensitivity so the red in the skin gets smoother out, that's my guess anyway.

dude I think the scanner sharpness is no prob. you're good to go. I certainly wouldn't worry about the perfs.Well at least you'll knopw your good when you get the larger sheet for sheet film.

The sharpness was more of an issue when the film plane height is just slightly off, it's amazing how small the scanning depth of field is. But thanks, I agree I think I've nailed the height for the 70mm FINALLY!
