Think this is a sycamore seed pod, or something. Found it Christmas tree shopping last weekend. I like the texture.

Sweetgum ball. A pain to walk on, fun to paint and make Christmas ornaments from.
 
Ooooh, we have those. Like glbeas, everyone here hates them but I think they're pretty. Nice.
