Are you just sharing the image, Jon, or are you really looking for critiques of this 10-year old image? If the latter, I guess my question would be, if you were to take this photo today, what would you change?

I would like to know how did Jon like the combination of FP4 (I assume 125iso) in Rodinal with the high contrast of the greek island imagery.

Ralph, I am looking for critique of the image, old though it may be. I guess that today I would go for a bit darker sky (orange filter) but more lightness on the walls, and perhaps try to put more emphasis on the bells but I like the wall in the foreground.

Aristotelis, I liked very much the look of the old FP4 (without the Plus). I had no problems with the contrast in Santorini or in Crete. I have missed that film ever since.

Alright, I\'ve received many fine comments on this forum so time for me to chime in:

My biggest suggestion would be to crop the top of the image above the dark rim that goes around the tower on the right. The very top of that tower doesn\'t really contribute anything to the balance of the composition. Like you, I like the wall in the foreground. The highlights around the central bell could be printed darker as well - just a touch, perhaps.

I believe those changes would strengthen and balance the composition, making it less cluttered, drawing the eye towards the bells (the line of the black border would then point directly to them).

Hope that helps!

I like the foreground wall, too, Jon. I might have raised the camera position a bit to get all of the lower bells into the image, though. The partial dome bothers me a bit, too. I'd have tried to include the entire dome (more like an architectural shot), or cropped above the dark transition edge. You might be able to print with a bit more contrast to bring up the brilliance of the whites.

I agree with you Ralph and skillian, that cropping the dome would be an improvement. Thanks for your input.
