I'm with Early on this one. I doubt the image needed that heavy handed burning to begin with.
 
I'm afraid its probably due to my poor all in one printer/scanner that you can get any detail out of the edges however in the print they are a deep black with detail
 
How about posting a straight print? as it is, I get the deep black with detail but I am asking myself why it is there to begin with. There is also what looks like a burn/dodge halo around part of the tree. Basically I think there was too much done to an already nicely executed image.
 
fascinating image. the heavy vignetting promotes the feeling of an alien world.

Very nice print. The composition found is so delicate, sad, with frisson effect. But I feel also that the dodge-burn is too hard. Among the lighter strip along the tree (as mark mentioned) the vignetting has strong jump along the horizon. r.
