Not so much patient as just left it setting on the counter top while I did other stuff. So the light was from some recessed incandecent lamps in the ceiling, not an official UV source.
This raises one question though: I'm not familiar with the salted print process, but can you actually see the "progress" of the exposure, or do you need to develop in some sort of way, before you know you got it right??
With an exposure of hours, I guesse you don't want to wait a couple of hours, only to discover you got it wrong... ;-)
A salt print produces a visible image during the UV exposure. Normally it would be between 2 and 20 minutes (roughly) depending on the negative, salting/silver ratio and strength of UV source. So, yes, you see the image form. It will bleach back a little bit during the fixing. Toning before fixing will help with this.
This was so long because I just left it under incandicent room lights which have VERY LITTLE UV content. Just thew down the sprig and found other things to do for the rest of the day.
